CNC Operator

Salary : $23/hour

About the role: We are seeking a CNC Operator to join our team, reporting to the Operations Manager. This role will support production in repair of metalworking dies, jigs, gauges, and cutting tools, applying knowledge of machining and tool and die construction. Assisting with continuous improvement, activities, and projects through defined phases while adhering to establish timelines.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Read blueprint or job order for product specifications, such as dimensions and tolerances, and tooling instructions, such as feed rate, cutting speed, depth of cut, fixture, and cutting tools to be used.
  • Install and adjust holding device, and fastens specified cutting and shaping tools in position to enable operator to produce finished work piece to specifications, using hand tools, such as wrenches, screwdrivers, and pliers.
  • Select and set speed and feed of machine according to type of operation and specified material and finish.
  • Start machine to obtain first-run work piece and verifies dimensional tolerances, using micrometers, gauges, and templates.
  • Change worn cutting tools and adjusts operation of machine, such as cutting speed, feed rate, or depth of cut, when required.
  • Contribute to the systems analysis, design, redesign, and reengineering of processes, systems, procedures, and operational changes to increase efficiency, safety, and effectiveness.
  • Identify, develop, and execute or implements long-term and short-term continuous improvement strategies, working closely with production to increase capacity, reduce lead times, improve delivery upon request, and improve product quality and engineering.
  • Plan, lead, define, develop, review, and audit strategic activities for continuous improvement initiatives while following and helping established standards across the company.
  • Develop and track metrics related to improvement activities; and promote standard processes, improved flow, waste elimination, and support management for daily improvement activities.
  • Provide assistance to production personnel, and assures that facility improvement initiatives support corporate strategy and goals.
  • Facilitates training and development, working directly with the Operations Manager, and engineering to assess, prioritize, and implement continuous improvement activities.

  • Assist and liaise with Engineering department regarding technical issues in CNC/tool room
  • Responsible for Tool design, repair and liaison with Tool Suppliers
  • Assist in quoting process with respect to injection molding and CNC
  • General maintenance of equipment (CNC, injection molders) and building fixtures
  • Other duties as determined by the manager.

Position Requirements:

  • Post-Secondary Education of relevant background
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Able to multi-task and gather information with different departments and external parties efficiently and effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to trouble shoot and problem solve.
  • Ability to work well as part of a team.
